A line of showers and thunderstorms developed along a pre-frontal surface trough that moved southward out of southern Virginia. Cell mergers and back building of the convection along the line resulted in an area of heavy rainfall of 3 to 4 inches over the northwest Piedmont which caused minor street flooding in urban areas of Winston Salem.
