Sparked by the remnants of Hurricane Isaac -- which still maintained extra-tropical characteristics nearly 5 days after making landfall along the Gulf Coast. Thunderstorms erupted during the mid afternoon hours across northwest Alabama and tracked east and southeast across the rest of north Alabama through early to mid evening.
