The arrival of a cold front triggered numerous showers and thunderstorms from the afternoon of the 12th through the morning of the 13th. The front stalled for awhile, causing heavy rain to develop near the front. In a swath from west central Arkansas through the Arkansas River Valley into north central and northeast sections of the state, rainfall amounts of 3.5 to 6 inches were common, resulting in flash flooding.
