A stationary front remained in place across southern Iowa. During the late afternoon and evening hours an upper level shortwave moved east across the area. The atmosphere had become more unstable during the day with highs in the low to mid 80s and dewpoint temperatures in the low to mid 60s. Thunderstorms developed in western Iowa and moved very slowly east during the early evening. Around 1000 J/kg of CAPE was available. The atmosphere was very weakly sheared.
