A low pressure area tracked east out of South Dakota during the afternoon and evening. A warm front extending from the low across west central into southeast Iowa lifted north with thunderstorm development during the afternoon. Thunderstorms formed during the late afternoon and overnight hours as the cold front trailing form the low moved into Iowa The atmosphere became moderately unstable during the afternoon and evening as moisture continued to pool near the warm front and ahead of the low.
