A warm front lifted northward through Southern New England, igniting showers and thunderstorms across much of the area. While the main threat with many of these storms was flash flooding with precipitable water values above 2 inches, a few of the storms started rotating with plenty of instability and low level shear in the atmosphere. An EF-1 tornado developed from one of these storms, resulting in damage across parts of the towns of Andover, Coventry, and Mansfield.
