A very warm, moist airmass remained in place across Southern New England with precipitable water values over 2 inches. Showers and thunderstorms that developed with an upper level disturbance ahead of a cold front resulted in very heavy rainfall with reports of near 2 inches in 30 minutes in some locations. This resulted in flooding particularly in southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
