A couple of upper level disturbances moved over southern New England while at the surface a slow moving warm front drifted north across the area. This ignited showers and thunderstorms across much of the area. Southwest flow at the surface provided a deep layer of moisture with high dewpoints and high precipitable water values, which resulted in heavy rainfall with the showers and thunderstorms.
