Copious amounts of tropical moisture spread northward across the southwest and south central Arizona deserts during the morning hours on September 9th, and this led to the developement of scattered to numerous showers along with isolated embedded thunderstorms. Moderate to heavy rain occurred over portions of the southwest and south central deserts by late morning and this persisted into the afternoon hours leading to bouts of both flash flooding and urban and small stream flooding.
