A lee side trof preceding a cold front (that moved through overnight on thee 22nd) helped trigger a series of showers and thunderstorms with heavy rain across the central third of New Jersey from the morning into the middle of the afternoon on the 22nd. Event precipitation totals reached 1.5 to 3.5 inches across sections of Mercer, Middlesex, Morris and Somerset Counties and even reached close to 6.0 inches in far northwest Somerset County which had the greatest impact.
