A deep upper level trough moved out of the Inter-Mountain West and into the Southern Plains on October 31st. This resulted in strong southwest flow aloft which opened up the Lower Mississippi River Valley for deep tropical moisture from not only the Gulf of Mexico but also the Eastern Pacific. Precipitable Water values for the region were above the 99th percentile value for late October.
