A strong low pressure system tracked northeast from Kentucky to western New York state during the daylight hours on Thursday the 16th. A large fetch of Gulf and Atlantic moisture was pulled northward ahead of the cold front, which produced a squall line of thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall. This line of thunderstorms produced 45 to 74 mph winds across a large part of central NY. Additionally, the squall line spawned an F1 tornado north of Elmira, NY.
