An upper level low was over southern Arizona with upper level disturbances moving over New Mexico and the Big Bend region. Residual outflow boundaries from thunderstorms the previous day were present across the area helping to provide additional lift. There was a lot of moisture in the air so this aided in heavy rainfall. The atmosphere became very unstable with an increase in heating, especially in the higher terrain.
