A slow moving thunderstorm dropped hail to a depth of several inches and an inch of rain over Palomar Mountain. The area had been severely burned during a wild fire the previous Fall. Mud, ash, and other debris quickly was swept across a 200 foot section of Highway 76 to a depth of 18 inches. Three vehicles were trapped, and it took about two hours for CALTRANS to clear the mud and debris.
