On the evening of August 1, scattered thunderstorms developed along a stationary front, in a very humid air mass across Herkimer County. One of the cells became briefly severe as it moved across southern Herkimer county. Wind from the storm blew down trees and wires in the town of Russia. Thunderstorms trained over the same region, producing very heavy rainfall amounts over a short time, with Doppler Radar estimating up to 4 inches.
