A potent back door cold front that shifted west across eastern New Mexico early on the 8th plowed through the Rio Grande Valley and became stationary along the Continental Divide. The upper level high was centered over central New Mexico and resulted in very weak steering winds over the region. A thunderstorm that developed over the Las Conchas burn scar produced flash flooding within Frijoles Canyon.
