High pressure aloft was positioned over western areas of the state, elongated from Nevada to Mexico. Remnant monsoonal moisture as well as warming daytime temperatures allowed for the development of showers and thunderstorms throughout the late afternoon into the evening. A line of storms that developed in northern New Mexico, nearly parallel to Interstate 25, extending from Raton to south of Las Vegas, created heavy rainfall.
