Surface high pressure was centered over southeastern Colorado with a ridge over the western U.S. The morning KTUS sounding indicated 1.5 of precipitable water, mid-level easterly flow of 15-25 kts, and steep mid-level lapse rates. Monsoon storms formed over the higher terrain and eventually moved into valley locations, including the Tucson metro. Flash flooding and damaging winds were reported in Pima County.
