Scattered thunderstorms developed near the Blue Ridge during early-to-mid afternoon, then organized into a cluster of showers and storms as they moved into the Piedmont during the late afternoon, where isolated, brief damaging winds occurred. The cluster of storms slowed and briefly stalled over southern portions of the Charlotte metro area, resulting in significant flash flooding near the Mecklenburg/Union County line.
