Multiple, heavy rain producing thunderstorms moved across portions of southwest Virginia during the afternoon hours. Some locations received generous rainfall and heavy rainfall rates on the order of 4 to 6 inches per hour. The community of Chilhowie receive such a storm that produced flash flooding that closed roads and damaged at least one building.
