Flash Flood — Garfield, CO

Flash flooding in Hubbard Gulch and Government Creek damaged 11 buildings, including homes and businesses, and tore out a section of a road and a culvert. The fairgrounds were also damaged. The flooding was designated an event which occurs only once every 400 years in the Rifle area.

A strong thunderstorm over the town of New Castle produced very heavy rain and small hail. This storm was part of a line of storms that were moving slowly south through west-central Colorado. Up to one inch of rain fell in less than 20 minutes.
