A cluster of heavy rainfall producing thunderstorms anchored over much of Charleston County in the afternoon hours. These thunderstorms were nearly stationary as they developed just north of a stalled front extending out from a weak area of low pressure over south Georgia. Up to 8 inches of rain fell in some locations in only a few hours, producing flash flooding.
