Flash Flood — Delta, CO

Two deep drainages of 20 to 30 feet deep filled up and overflowed US Highway 50 which extends over the drainages. Water 3 feet deep was running across the highway in some locations with nearly 2 feet of debris deposited on the road. Several unoccupied cars and one occupied car were washed off the road. The Carl Smith Dam at Patterson Reservoir #3 failed, sending a wall of water down Leroux Creek. The earthen dam break was 200 feet wide and 45 feet high. The wall of water was up to 10 feet high and averaged 100 feet in width.
