A prolonged period of moderate to locally heavy rainfall associated with the remnant moisture from Hurricane Odile impacted much of southern and eastern New Mexico between the 17th and 20th. Many areas from the upper Gila region of Catron County eastward across Socorro and Lincoln counties into the eastern plains reported 4 day rainfall amounts of 2 to nearly 5 inches. This prolonged heavy rainfall event and abundant remnant moisture set the stage for flash flooding as a second upper disturbance
