A slow-moving thunderstorm developed over the Teton Range and produced heavy rain along an axis parallel to and over Paintbrush Canyon. Rainfall amounts of one-half inch to one inch fell in 20 to 30 minutes in the steep-sided canyon. A large mudslide occurred as a result, washing out large sections of a popular trail.
