A weak trough of low pressure was over southern Iowa as a reinforcing cold front dropped southeast into the state. The airmass was moderately unstable with dew point readings in the 60s. Surface low tracked east across central Missouri during the mid part of the day. Thunderstorms erupted across southern Iowa. They formed into a line and became severe.
