Flood — Holmes, OH

Two to three inches of rain fell on much of Wayne and Holmes Counties as a series thunderstorms moved across northern Ohio during the evening hours of June 14th and early morning hours of the 15th. Widespread lowland flooding was reported in both Wayne and Holmes Counties. Several roads had to be closed in each county because of flood waters up to three feet deep. Dozens of homes and business sustained flood damage, mainly from basement flooding.

Heavy rain and runoff from snowmelt caused extensive flooding in Holmes and Wayne Counties during the first half of January. The flooding was most severe along and near Killbuck Creek which went into flood around midday on January 3rd.

An area of low pressure over western Indiana was slowly drifting towards northern Ohio on the afternoon of June 22nd. A series of lines of convection rotated into central Ohio from the south. These storms had heavy rainfall, which for most areas only lasted around 15 minutes.
