Very heavy rain struck northwest and extreme northern Iowa at mid-month. An area of thunderstorms, bringing mostly 1 to 2 inch rain amounts, fell across northwest Iowa on the night of the 13th and morning of the 14th. This was soon followed by a procession of thunderstorms from mid-day on the 14th to sunrise on the 15th when additional 6 or more inches of rain fell on a wide area from O'Brien and Cherokee Counties northeast into southeast Minnesota.
