A series of thunderstorms with torrential downpours caused flash flooding of most of the streams in the southeast part of Berks County. Flooding streams included the Conestoga, Monocacy and Manatawny. About 10 major roads were closed including Pennsylvania State Route 724 in Union Township and westbound U.S. Route 422 in Amity Township. Storm totals ranged from three to eight inches across the area. One woman was injured. The heavy downpours loosened the soil and caused trees to be knocked down.
