Showers and thunderstorms developed across northern Rhode Island in a hot and humid airmass ahead of a weak cold front during the evening hours of 14 August 2005. One thunderstorm became severe, producing damaging winds that knocked down numerous trees and wires in Burrillville, Foster, North Smithfield, Glocester, and Woonsocket.
