A combination of weather systems including the remnants of Tropical Storm Tammy and low pressure associated with an approaching cold front linked up to cause flooding rains across the area. During a three day period from October 6th through the 8th portions of eastern North Carolina received up to a foot of rainfall. Six to eight inch rainfall totals were common across much of the area.
