On the morning of the 26th...a deep upper atmospheric trough was located across the Mississippi River Valley, while a quasi-stationary warm front was across the Champlain Valley. This combination allowed copious amounts of moisture to advect northward from the Gulf of Mexico into the Champlain Valley in the form of rain on the 26th.
