Several strong thunderstorms merged as they moved south from Rio Rancho and produced heavy rains of 1.5 to 2 inches in less than an hour across north central and central Albuquerque. Heavy rains first flooded streets and closed intersections from Edith and Paseo Del Norte southward to the near the downtown area. Heaviest rains of just over 2 inches along Central Ave both west and east of downtown produced 2 to 3 foot of water in several businesses and flooded an apartment complex.
