A weak, upper-level trough of low pressure moved through the West on the 16th, with scattered showers and high elevation snow. Showers lingered through the night, before a second, stronger trough moved through the region on the 17th. Showers increased in coverage and intensity with the second trough, behind a leading line of strong thunderstorms, with scattered thunderstorms behind it.
