A strong upper atmospheric ridge was located across the Great Lakes, accounting for a west-northwest upper level wind flow with several disturbances that moved within this flow across northern New York during the early morning hours of the 1st. Meanwhile, a warm front lifted northeast across the area, which brought an increasingly humid and unstable airmass.
