A warm, very humid and moisten laden airmass was located across Vermont on the night of the 2nd. In addition, a cold front was draped along the Vermont and Canadian border during this time. Showers and thunderstorms developed along this frontal boundary and moved across the headwater region of the Mississquoi river basin in Orleans county during the night of the 2nd and into the early morning hours of the 3rd.
