Very heavy rainfall of 4 to 7 inches in less than 24 hours caused major flash flooding. Schools were closed in DuQuoin due to flooded roads and school buildings. Sandbags were placed around the Pinckneyville water filtration plant to stave off a rising creek. Perry County was eventually declared a federal disaster area.
