Torrential downpours from a nearly stationary thunderstorm dumped more than 5 inches, and locally as much as 10 inches of rain between Sturgis and Hereford from 1600-1900 MST. Flooding mostly affected locations along Alkali Creek. Several spotter rain gauge reports were unavailble because the gages were washed away. The road from Sturgis to Hereford was washed out.
