Three inches of rain fell over the New Buffalo area between 9 and 10PM EST causing extensive flooding throughout the city. The city sewer system was unable to handle the rainfall which created backup flooding in many business and homes. Moisture from the remnants of Tropical Storm Lowell and Hurricane Ike moved into the region and interacted with a stationary boundary to bring heavy rainfall to portions of far southern lower Michigan starting on the 11th, extending into the early morning hours of the 15th.
