During the morning and early afternoon hours of August 8, training showers and thunderstorms with torrential downpours produced up to seven inches of rain across southern Herkimer County. This resulted in extensive flash flooding in the Town of Frankfort and to a lesser degree in the Village of Ilion. A state of emergency was declared in Herkimer County.
