A cluster of thunderstorms developed near the North Carolina/South Carolina border and quickly became severe as they moved slowly south. Damaging winds downed numerous trees and power lines. Some roads were blocked by fallen trees and power lines as the evening rush hour began. Several power outages lasted into the night. A tree fell onto a home in Taylors. Severe urban flooding occurred along Pleasantburg, East North and Haywood Roads as storm drains were overwhelmed. Water entered a number of
