Record setting rains producing extensive flooding occurred from October 9-13, 1997 across portions of the South Texas Coastal Bend. A high pressure area across the eastern U.S. and Gulf of Mexico combined with an area of low pressure from northern Mexico to force an influx of very moist and unstable tropical air into the Texas coastal plains.
