Flash Flood — Evangeline, LA

Early morning thunderstorms produced between four and six inches of rain across Evangeline Parish. The hardest hit area was Mamou, where all the schools were closed due to high water. The Mamou Canal flooded for most of the morning, but had receded enough by afternoon to allow roads to be re-opened.

Hurricane Lili made landfall the morning of October 3rd near Intracoastal City in Vermilion Parish as a category one hurricane. Over 48,000 claims were filed with FEMA by homeowners who received damage. along the path of Lili, from southwest Louisiana into central Louisiana.

A very slow moving area of low pressure moved west across South Louisiana. Very high moisture content and slow moving bands of rain generated efficient rain producing storms that left rainfall totals at some locations over 20 inches.
