A storm system tracked across New England with periods of rain continuing. Soil conditions remained saturated with streams and rivers at or above flood stage. Many basements of houses were flooded, especially in Shelburne. Storm sewers were flooding in many localities. By afternoon, portions of train tracks in both Burlington and Shelburne suffered extensive damage with erosion of the track bed and actual washouts in places.
