A moist southeast flow from the Atlantic developed ahead of an intensifying low pressure center off the mid-Atlantic coast on Friday, October 9 and caused heavy rain to spread over southern Maine during the day. The low moved slowly northeastward during the 10th and 11th, then gradually moved east of the area on the 12th. The storm caused strong winds, heavy rain, flooding, and coastal erosion in parts of southern Maine. The southeasterly flow ahead of the storm combined with its slow movement
