A backdoor cold front triggered showers and thunderstorms with heavy downpours that caused flash flooding across sections of the Raritan Valley in central New Jersey during the evening of the 31st. Doppler Radar estimates as well as Skywarn spotter reports showed that storm total estimates reached between 2.5 and 5.0 inches across parts of the northern halves of Hunterdon, Somerset and Middlesex Counties.
