The combination of moist, unstable southeast low level flow beneath dry and fast northwest flow aloft created an environment for isolated severe thunderstorms over portions of eastern New Mexico. Thunderstorms developed early in the afternoon over the central mountain chain and moved slowly southeast onto the high plains.
