Flash Flood — Washoe, NV

Persistent moderate to high atmospheric moisture combined with daytime heating to produce thunderstorms (many with heavy rainfall) early in the month. Periods of slow-moving thunderstorms combined with the heavy rain to bring flash flooding to western Nevada. One of the top flash flooding events in the past 25 years affected Douglas County (Johnson Lane area) on the 8th and 9th.

Flash flooding struck the Spanish Springs area when an estimated 2 inches of rain fell between 6:20 p.m. and 7:20 p.m. PDT. Most flooding occurred on the west side of Spanish Springs valley where heavy rain fell on hills left nearly barren from a recent wildfire.
