Southwesterly flow and moderate instability ahead of an approaching cold front helped to spawn showers and thunderstorms, some of which were severe, across the northern West Virginia pan-handle, and western Pennsylvania on the 7th. With dry air present aloft, several of the storms produced damaging wind gusts that brought down trees and power lines.
