The longest dry spell for almost the entire state since early June began on the 21st and lasted until the afternoon of the 26th. After the Brickyard 400 ended, storms developed in central Indiana during the late afternoon of the 26th. Heavy rains of 1 to more than 5 inches fell in the Indianapolis metro area and areas immediately northwest and southeast of downtown Indianapolis. The heaviest rainfall occurred in the northeast portion of Indianapolis where brief severe local flooding occurred.
